What Lake Norman yards actually need

Lake Norman is North Carolina's largest man-made lake — about 520 miles of shoreline across four counties — and lake-effect landscaping is its own discipline. Wakes erode unprotected banks, so shoreline beds are structural, planted to hold soil first and look good second. Water levels move on Duke Energy's schedule, so anything at the waterline — intakes, lighting, steps, plantings — has to tolerate a range, not a level. Freeze-thaw at the water's edge finds every fitting and paver that was installed for a dry yard.

Away from the waterline, the lake still runs the show: west-facing shores take afternoon sun that browns turf on a different schedule than the east side, waterfront HOAs hold landscapes to view-corridor and appearance standards, and the region's red clay makes fall aeration and overseeding the hinge of every lawn program on every shore.

We work the lake from all sides — our routes ring it from Mooresville and Troutman around to Denver, Sherrills Ford and Terrell — so the crew that shows up has seen your shore's version of the problem before.

Neighborhoods we serve in Lake Norman

Our Lake Norman coverage runs the ring: Mooresville and Mount Mourne on the northeast shore, Troutman to the north by the state park, Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville on the Mecklenburg side, Denver on the west shore, and Sherrills Ford and Terrell across the Catawba County line.

Each shore gets its own page and its own plan — the towns differ more than they look from the water. What the lake properties share, we bring everywhere: shoreline planting that holds banks, dock and path lighting rated for the waterline, view-corridor pruning, and quiet battery-electric equipment that gated lake communities never have to think twice about letting in.

Lake Norman questions we get asked

Which Lake Norman towns do you actually serve?

The ring: Mooresville, Mount Mourne, Troutman, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Denver, Sherrills Ford and Terrell — ZIPs 28115, 28117, 28031, 28036, 28078, 28037, 28166, 28673 and 28682. Each has its own dedicated page with local specifics.

What makes waterfront landscaping different from a normal yard?

Three forces a dry lot never sees: wake erosion working at the bank, water levels that move on the utility's schedule rather than the weather's, and hard freeze-thaw at the water's edge. Shoreline work is structural first — plantings that hold soil, materials that tolerate the range — and decorative second.

Do you handle erosion or retaining issues at the shoreline?

We handle the planting side: deep-rooted shoreline beds, bank-stabilizing groundcover, and grading small drainage away from the bank. Engineered seawalls and permitted retaining structures need a marine contractor, and we will tell you when your bank is past what planting can fix.

Is mosquito season worse on the lake?

The season is the same — April through October — but lake properties carry more harbourage: coves with still water, shoreline vegetation, shaded dock structures. We treat where they rest, not the open water, and every lake town on our routes gets the same program tuned to its shore.
